Something Real - Bio

Any news about the band or upcoming gigs will be posted here...

06 January 2012

We are pleased to announce that our drummer, Stephen, is now fit again and ready to take up his tub-thumping duties once more!  New gigs will hopefully be announced shortly.

08 October 2011

Unfortunately our drummer Stephen has decided to take up a new career as a stuntman.  His first stunt, falling off a ladder while at work, did not go as planned and he has managed to break his collar bone!  Therefore all gigs for the next couple of months are cancelled.

Gary Maddison, Bass player, has left Something Real via mutual consent.  The band would like to thank him for the time he gave them.  Colin Hird will again take up the mantle of deputy Bass player for the time being.  Many thanks go to Colin for helping out the band again.

Bio page has been updated.

26 January 2011

Good news!  A permanent Bass player has been found to replace Paul.  His name is Gary Maddison and he is a very experienced player who has recently been seen in Bad Dog and before that Preacher.  Best wishes to Gary and the best of luck.  An update to the Bio page will be coming ASAP.

08 December 2010

It is with a lot of sadness that regular bass player Paul has decided to leave Something Real.  He had recently recovered from Tendinitis which had kept him from playing since February.  Unfortunately, because of the long gap and due to big changes in his personal life he found he no longer had the desire to play the bass any more and he therefore decided to retire from all his musical commitments for the foreseeable future.  The band are currently in the audition process for a replacement and wish Paul all the best for the future.

Paul will continue to look after the band's website and is looking forward to screaming out for some encores at a gig sometime soon as a normal punter! :)

News of Paul's replacement will be posted here along with a new bio ASAP....

25th October 2010

Regular bass player Paul is now fighting fit and has started full rehearsals with the band again.  Hopefully he will be gigging sometime in November.  Many, many thanks go to both Steve and Colin for helping the band out over the last few months and for keeping them ticking over with gigs.

11th August 2010

At the moment there are no definite gigs booked for Something Real.  this due to the ongoing injury to their regular Bass player, Paul.  Colin is continuing to do a fantastic job in his absence though.  Many thanks again to Colin for his commitment and enthusiasm. Paul is now looking at a return to regular playing towards the end of October although we fully expect some gigs to be booked in for September as well, depending on Colin's availability etc.

Watch this space...

19th July 2010

A little late with posting this news but the Band would like to thank Steve for all his help with the gigs he stood in for.  Steve has had to stand down due to his own arm problems (the band is cursed I tell you...).  We know have the 6 string maestro Colin Hird standing in for the still recovering Paul until further notice.  Colin has already performed a couple of gigs with the band and his help is truly appreciated.

We are hoping that Paul will be ready to return sometime in September.

14th March 2010

The next few gigs will be played without the band's regular bass player Paul.  This is due to him suffering from tendinitis in his left arm.  However, a fantastic bass player by the name of Steve has stepped in on short notice to take over for a while.  Steve used to play with Roddy (lead/rhythm guitar) in the band Wishblowin' Ash and has also played with Dirty South, Steve Gilroy Band and K.I.S.S.  Many thanks go out to him for his time and effort.
